The reason fishing anglers bow to tarpon also known as silver king is because these powerful fish jump, flip like crazy (putting on some of the best aerial acts in the fishing industry), and "bowing" to the king by holding your rod tip down in the direction of the tarpon to take some of the pressure off of the line. That helps decrease the odds pulling the hook or the line breaking while the fish displays it's powerful jumps and violent head shakes.
